These figures come against the background of the impending closure, the third in number, which the government approved yesterday in order to curb the rise in morbidity. The closure will begin this coming Sunday at 17:00, will last two weeks and will be extended by another two weeks, unless the goal is achieved – the number of daily infections is less than 1,000 and the infection coefficient is less than 1.

Yesterday, Prof. Hezi Levy, director general of the Ministry of Health, said, “We are currently on the rise in morbidity, with about 4,000 patients in recent days and over 5% positive tests,” Levy said. “The coefficient of infection also indicates the condition of the disease – it stands At 1.26, which is quite a bit, there are sectors in which the coefficient is up to 1.7. “
Regarding the condition of the hospitals, he said that “we are increasing the level of hospitalization, currently the order of magnitude is 950 hospitalized. This figure is increasing, the number of serious patients is now about 500 and is also on the rise. We are returning beds that we converted to other patients to treat them properly. .
“We are not yet under the influence of the vaccine, we are still in the midst of the rising wave,” he continued, referring to the decision to impose the third closure. “If we do not go down from the morbidity level to the dimensions we want, of about 1,000 patients and a coefficient of infection of less than 1, we may ask to extend the closure for a while.”
Levy commented on the restrictions: “We are sorry and in pain for closing the trade. We know how difficult this is.” He noted that according to experts’ forecasts, “if we do not take the closure we could reach 9,000 verified by mid-January, reaching 800 seriously ill patients. It’s time to stop it, prevent the deterioration – and the slope is slippery.”
