Denmark has reported that two hospital staff suffered brain hemorrhages and blood clots within two weeks of receiving AstraZeneca vaccines against COVID-19. One has died and the other is very ill.
The Danish Pharmaceutical Agency is investigating whether the conditions were linked to the vaccines.
“The Danish Capital Department can confirm that two of our employees are diagnosed with brain blood clots and cerebral hemorrhage,” a spokesman said in a statement shared with the paper- news Ekstra Bladet. “One person has died tragically.”
The worrying news was reported when countries are debating whether to trust the AstraZeneca vaccine amid concerns that it could be linked to blood clots and extreme bleeding.
“We are currently investigating whether this is the same disease picture with multiple blood clots, low number of pests and hemorrhages,” Tanja Erichsen, director of the Danish Medical Association, said in a radio interview with Danish national broadcaster DR , The New York Times reported.
Denmark, along with other Scandinavian countries and several European countries, stopped using the AstraZeneca vaccine earlier this month. But the European Union’s drugs watchdog, the European Medicines Agency, issued a statement on Thursday saying it believed the vaccine was “safe and effective” but would continue to monitor results. . He also noted that the benefit of vaccines in combating COVID-19 outweighs the risks.
“The benefits still outweigh the risks, despite a potential link to rare blood clots with low blood clots,” the EMA Safety Committee said in a statement.
The death in Denmark is the second reported after the AstraZeneca vaccine. A 60-year-old woman died earlier this month of a blood clot after vaccination.
She had unusual symptoms after the injection, including a low number of blood clots and clots in small and large vessels, as well as bleeding, according to the Danish Pharmaceutical Agency, Reuters reported .
Norway is also investigating two deaths after vaccinations.
So far, after millions of vaccinations, the number of swelling problems after the injections appears minuscule.
The EMA review covered 20 million people in the UK and 30 European countries. It included seven cases of blood clots in several blood vessels and 18 cases of a rare condition that is difficult to treat called cerebral venous sinus thrombosis, Reuters reported.
AstraZeneca has not yet commented on Danish affairs.
