2 Palestinians injured in IDF retaliatory strikes in Gaza

Two Palestinians in the Gaza Strip were lightly injured in IDF strikes carried out in response to the firing of two rockets at the southern city of Ashkelon late Friday.

The IDF said Israeli planes hit several sites in the strip early Saturday, including a rocket manufacturing facility and Hamas-related training and weapons positions, a terrorist group that controls the coast.

“IDF attacks will not break the will of the Palestinian people, but will strengthen their will to uphold their rights,” a Hamas spokesman said.

The rockets fired on Friday were aimed at the coastal city, but were fired by air defenders, the military said. A Palestinian group in Gaza has not claimed responsibility for the rocket fire, which broke months of cross-border calm.

Bullets of missiles from the Iron Dome defense system lit up the skies in the northern Gaza Strip as they tried to hit the incoming rockets.

Israeli retaliatory rocket attacks and artillery and air strikes are frequent, but have been largely controlled in recent months as a result of the coronavirus uprising in both countries.

Hamas, which has ruled Gaza since 2007 and fought three wars with Israel and countless rounds of smaller reefs, will hold an unofficial ceasefire with Israel.
