How to clear Google Maps search history on iPhone and iPad

If you prefer to use Google Maps over Apple Maps on your iPhone or iPad, it’s helpful to know that you have the ability to control how long your map scan history is stored on Google’s servers. This article shows you how.

When you start typing a place name in Google Maps, the app throws up suggestions of your recent searches for locations and directions, which can be useful if you visit specific places frequently. Sometimes the suggestions are for places you don’t plan to return anytime soon, and in that case, you can remove those suggestions.

You can also set up your Google account to automatically clear your Google Maps search history after a predefined period of time, which is much easier than manually deleting your own locations. The following steps show you how it is done on ‌iPhone‌ and ‌iPad‌.

How to delete Google Maps check history in iOS

1. Launch Google Maps on your ‌iPhone‌ or ‌iPad‌.
2. Tap on your Google profile image in the top right corner of the screen.
3. Tap on it Circumstances.
   
4. Under “Account Settings,” tap Map history.
5. This will open the in-app Maps Activity webpage. Now, tap on the three-dotted icon to the right of the check bar.
6. Tap on it Delete activity with.
   
7. On the next screen, tap on it Set to delete automatically.
8. You can choose to keep your search data 3, 18, no 36 months until it is automatically deleted. Select the option you want, and then tap The next thing.
9. Tap on it Done in the top left corner of the screen.
   

Note that this automatic deletion option applies not only to your Maps history, but also to the web and app activity of your Google account. If you just want to remove your Maps search history, you have to do it manually.

You can do this by finding specific places in the check bar in step 5 and using the filters to check activity by date, or you can select the predefined options available on use the screen in step 7, which includes Last time, Last day, Always, and Custom range.
