Rocket League Sideswipe will be coming to Android and iOS later this year. Psyonix, the developer of the popular console and PC version of the game, announced that the team is working on a mobile version that “builds it from the ground up.” Rocket League Sideswipe, like the PC version and tokens, will be free-to-play on Android and iOS. There will be some changes in the mobile version like 1v1 and 2v2 matches. The developer also shared some alpha plays taking an early look at the game.
Psyonix announced via a post on their Rocket League website that the team is working on creating a mobile version of the game called Rocket League Sideswipe. It will be free to play on Android and iOS when it launches later this year. There is no release date for the game yet. Rocket League Sideswipe will feature 1v1 and 2v2 games lasting 2 minutes and can be played online. Unlike the PC version and tokens with 4 players on each team as well as a 3D arena that gives players more freedom to navigate, Rocket League Sideswipe will be more linear with goals on the left and right of the screen.
The plays show regular football mode and basketball mode, along with some vehicle equipment. You can check out the alpha plays below.
Psyonix says that the controls for the mobile version are easy to build and that there are also advanced tools for players “who want to climb the competitive levels.” The game will feature “strong car customization” and an online ranking system for competitive play.
While the worldwide Rocket League Sideswipe will be held later this year, Australia and New Zealand will have access to a time-limited regional alpha test only on Android. The developers will share more details in the coming months. The PC and token version came free-to-play in the summer of 2020.
