Google has built a new tool called Threadit to make remote work more efficient. Threadit allows users to send small recorded videos (such as on TikTok or Instagram Reels) to team members to communicate about work progress and other issues related to the project. Google says videos are a great way to communicate for those who are struggling to get their point across posts or text. Threadit also eliminates the need to hold live meetings for video communication and allows employees around the world to work on their time zones.
Threadit is available on the browser or as a Chrome extension. On its blog, Google explains that Threadit helps you say and show more with video messaging than with email or chat. It can be used to show each other’s progress, ask questions or ask for feedback without the need to coordinate records. It eliminates the need to hold meaningful meetings for small communications. It will also give users more time to think, do more focused work, and the meetings held at that time are more efficient.
With Threadit, users can record short clips and link them together in one compatible video message. They can even record their screens to better communicate their message. When you are done, you can send it to your team members via a link. These members can reply to the video message when finished, and all responses will appear as one conversation. Google says it built Threadit while working remotely through last year. It was built by a team at Area 120, Google’s promotional division, with the goal of making remote work more efficient.
Threadit also assisted employees working on their time zones. “I would send Threadit to my colleagues in Japan during my normal working hours in Seattle; they would respond in the hours worked for them in Tokyo. Threadit helped us feel like we were working together in person, even though we were responding at different times from around the world – it built links that email couldn’t. The best part? No one had to get up early or stay up late, ”Keller Smith, Founder and General Manager, Threadit, explained in a bog post.
As mentioned, users can send Threadit video to each other by just sharing a link, and there is no process where you have to download the video. Using the extension on Chrome, users can customize their own screen to communicate work-related issues effectively.
