The Europa League boasted a huge battle tonight (Thursday) between Manchester United and AC Milan, in a shocking surprise that left Tottenham out and in quite a few other fascinating games – but the one who stole the show was actually one Israeli referee named Uriel Greenfeld: the senior referee pulled out two tickets The Reds are justified to the Rangers in a 2-0 loss to Slavia Prague, with one of them being nothing less than an “assassination”.
It happened in the 62nd, when Rangers player Kemer Roff, who had only come in a few minutes earlier as a substitute, tried to reach a high ball with his foot and hit the face of Slavia goalkeeper Andrei Koller. The reverse gear shows a particularly sharp entry, which led to a deep cut in the goalie’s face, but one that was not done intentionally. Collar came out selling the grass on a stretcher, his face bandaged, but not facing the hospital – and 18-year-old goalkeeper Matisse Wagner took his place.
“It’s an indefensible move,” he analyzed during a BBC broadcast by Charlie Adam, ex-Rangers, adding: “If Ruff goes over his head, the goalkeeper is more likely to hit him and he will get a penalty. It’s a clear red card.”
Greenfeld’s “show” did not end here, and in the 73rd minute he pulled out another red – this time a little less brutal, but justified as well. This time the victim was Leon Blogon, who picked up a second yellow and finished his role on the lawn earlier than expected.
