Microsoft PowerPoint Presenter Coach, previously only available for the web client, is now integrated into the desktop and mobile clients as well. PowerPoint Presenter Coach helps users use their presentations with the help of AI by analyzing a user’s speech, the speed at which they speak, if they have a monotonous range, or if they use filler words. At the end of the practice session, it will give you a summary with points that the AI thinks the user should promote.
In Wednesday’s news, Microsoft announced that the new PowerPoint feature is now available for Windows, macOS, Android, iOS, as well as the web client.
The new feature will come in handy today as presentations become more common at online meetings. Microsoft aims to help students and professionals use their presentations without hiring someone else to collect the data provided by Presenter Coach. Microsoft had launched this feature for their web client in June 2019.
PowerPoint Presenter Coach uses AI to identify a user’s body language, parts of speech, tone and pitch, use of repetitive words, and even pronunciation. Basically, it gives feedback to the user, so that they can improve before giving a presentation. The new feature can detect if the user is looking away from the camera for too long (Eye Contact), if the audience is able to see the user clearly (Clear View), or if the user is sitting too far or close to the camera. (Astar).
The Presenter Coach feature in PowerPoint can also analyze whether the user is repeating a word or set of words too many times in the presentation. It then suggests other words or synonyms that the user can enter. In addition, it also checks the user’s pronunciation and suggests whether they are pronouncing certain words incorrectly. However, for now, the language has been optimized for American Standard English only, but can be disabled if the user wishes. It will also remind users about the use of sensitive phrases in their presentation.
Microsoft notes that it will not record any video or audio from the usage session for privacy reasons. The Presenter Coach feature does not work in flight mode and would require an internet connection for the AI to work.
