Oppo Find X3 Pro gets a software update that enables a variable refresh rate between 1Hz and 120Hz. Oppo was initially looking to have a changeable update rate on the Find X3 Pro, though it was not released at the time of the official release last week. The smartphone is designed to identify which app is running on the system to adjust the screen refresh rate accordingly. Companies including Samsung were offering a similar experience to their key areas, although the ability to reduce the display’s refresh rate as low as 1Hz is something special.
As announced via Weibo post, the variable update rate update on the Oppo Find X3 Pro aims to reduce power consumption by 50 percent. The update basically helps in changing the update rate according to the apps used on the phone to give best results. So, for example, if you’re using an e-reader app or looking at some of your photos, the Oppo Find X3 Pro could lower the refresh rate to 1Hz. This will not be true, however, if you play a game on the phone.
Creator Studio YouTube channel has released a video that will give us a quick overview of how the variable update rate works on the Oppo Find X3 Pro. It shows that the screen refresh rate basically comes at 1Hz when the app drawer is visible. However, the refresh rate varies between 24Hz and 60Hz when playing video and shifts up to 90Hz when playing some games.
Samsung offered a similar experience on the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra and Galaxy S21 series. However, the South Korean giant does not offer a refresh rate as low as 1Hz and offers 10Hz as the minimum.
The Oppo Find X3 Pro comes with low-temperature polycrystalline oxide (LTPO) display technology that helps adjust screen refresh rates. The same technology in particular comes on the OnePlus 9 Pro as well, and it also promises to offer a similarly variable refresh rate that can move between 1Hz and 120Hz.
That being said, the Oppo Find X3 Pro is going on sale in China starting tomorrow. The phone will reach Europe by the end of March. However, there is no word on his first foray into markets including India.
