OnePlus Guard will not run on Google Wear OS, Will Feature Design ‘Burdenless’

OnePlus Watch will not come with Google Wear OS and will run on a custom operating system, OnePlus Co-Founder and CEO Pete Lau confirmed on the company’s forum. An estimate was made of the smartwatch that was originally expected to run Wear OS. It seems, however, that the company would prefer their standard solution for better power efficiency. The OnePlus Watch is also rumored to have a “no burden” design and offers an unobtrusive connection to other OnePlus devices. It will appear alongside the OnePlus 9 series on March 23rd.

Pete Lau said that instead of running Wear OS with Google, the OnePlus Watch will feature a smart wearable operating system developed based on real-time operating system (RTOS). “[W]it believes it gives you a smooth and reliable experience while offering good battery life, covering some of the biggest concerns we’ve heard from people who want buy a smartwatch, ”he said while responding to a user on the OnePlus Community forums.

In December, Lau said that OnePlus was working with Google to bring about improvements bringing better interoperability to Wear OS. However, he did not specifically mention any details about the presence of Google’s operating system on the OnePlus Server.

Lau went to the OnePlus Community forums to publish some information about OnePlus Guard. He said the smartwatch comes with an “elegant no-burden design” which makes it a unique choice in the market. It also built on “sewing connections” with OnePlus smartphones, hearing aids, smart wearables and OnePlus TVs. This will help users control connected devices directly from their wrists – similar to how you can control music or attend voice calls using an Apple Watch.

“Our priority for devices that are part of the OnePlus ecosystem is to offer fashionable design, close connectivity and a best-in-class user experience. And the new OnePlus Guard is an exception, ”said Lau.

The OnePlus Watch is also considered to have an “best in class experience” at an “affordable price”.

OnePlus Guard is expected to arrive alongside the OnePlus 9 series on March 23rd. Building is reported to be IP68 certified, Warp Charge fast charge support, and fixed heart rate and SpO2 monitoring.

Along with the OnePlus Watch, the OnePlus Watch RX is claimed to be at the forefront of the works. The latter could run on Wear OS with Google or a reversed Android version.
