Guy Lerer, host of the TV show “The Pipe”, announced today (Wednesday) that he has signed with the Hapoel “The Crater” group in Givatayim. The team leads the Tel Aviv District League C table, and its ranks also include well-known past players, including Michael Zandberg and Carlos Chakana.
The 41-year-old Lerer will receive his first minutes of play for the team in the upcoming game against Pardes Katz. “This is a great excitement for me. About a year ago I returned to playing football as part of the artists’ team. I started playing and getting back in shape and I had an appetite to fulfill a childhood dream,” Lerer told Ynet.
How did the connection with the crater come about?
“I happened to be in their game. This is an exciting team that wants to establish a community like we did at Hapoel Katamon Jerusalem. I was very, very connected to them. I started coming to their games as a fan. I came to Pargan and then came up with an idea to join them.
Sounds serious
“Absolutely. I did personal training, underwent medical tests as required. I issued a player card in the association and today I signed.”
So can the Israeli team start following?
“I signed at the Wolfson complex and already at the exit Nir Klinger saw the abilities I demonstrated at the signing ceremony and groped if I was available,” laughed Lerer, “I do not want to jump over the belly button. I am all in Hapoel Givatayim Crater.”
And what are the goals?
“To move up a league and build a new community in Givatayim, so everything is entirely given to the club”
Lerer tweeted “Well, this is very serious. After grueling training, medical tests and a player card in the association, I fulfilled a childhood dream and signed as a full-time player at Hapoel Makhtesh Givatayim. A huge thank you to CEO Ido Fleischman for the trust, to the new boss Eldar Peshchatzky, to Michael Zandberg “Prepare the stretchers and oxygen balloons!”
