Lacaton & Vassal conversion of 530 dwellings through Laurian Ghinitoiu Lens

Renowned designer Laurian Ghinitoiu has shared with ArchDaily a series of photographs of one of Pritzker Laureates ’most recent recent projects, Anne Lacaton, and Jean-Philippe Vassal. The transformation of the 530 houses in Bordeaux, 3 modern residential buildings, reflects the sensitivity of Lacaton & Vassal in understanding existing structures. It also clarifies how, with minimal intervention, radical changes can be made to the usability and usability of a modern building – given that most of Europe has been demolish these structures. This approach was enough to select this transformation as the winner of the EU Mies 2019 Award, for the best contemporary architecture in Europe.

According to the jury of the EU Mies van der Rohe Awards 2019, the project “presents the issue of housing in a different way and talks about the 20th century housing tradition, its future demolition and improving living conditions transformation ”. Moreover, direct conversation with the people of the Transformation was crucial behind the decision of this award.
