An unusual incident of violence against medical staff at Soroka Medical Center: A father of a six-week-old baby attacked the medical staff, after he was unhappy with the treatment of his daughter. The investigation of the details shows that as part of the incident, the father grabbed the neck of one of the doctors.
Security guards who were called to the scene arrested the father, and at the same time police were called to arrest the attacker. The attacked staff is also being examined and receiving medical treatment in the emergency department.
Police said the father went berserk after not getting the treatment he wanted for his home, and apparently validated after being told there was no room in the ward for his home in need of recovery. It should be noted that the baby condition is not simple, anesthetized and respiratory.
Dr. Shlomi Kodesh, director of Soroka Medical Center, commented on the incident: “This is a very difficult incident. We condemn any incident of violence of any kind towards the dedicated staff at the hospital. Every case of violence is handled by us with severity and zero tolerance. We call on the authorities to work hard to eradicate the effects of violence against medical staff through deterrent punishment. “
Following the unusual event, it was decided to hold a protest strike by the medical staff tomorrow between 9:00 and 11:00. The chairman of the Brothers and Sisters Federation, Ilana Cohen: “Once again we are witnessing the medical staffs becoming a punching bag of patients or extreme family members, this time the attack comes against the background of the failures of the health system. There is no place for violence for any reason and we will continue to fight for it! A medical staff member should not be afraid to come to work, just like any other person in the State of Israel! It is a shame to the system and a shame to the values that we regularly witness to violence in hospitals and medical centers. It is time for them to take care of all the ailments in the system whether it is to eradicate violence or by adding standards and beds. As you can see – something leads to something. ”
