Boston College on Monday named coach Earl Grant as his new coach.
Grant, 44, went 127-89 in seven seasons at Charleston, with one NCAA Tournament look. His team finished 9-10, 7-4 in the Colonial Athletic Association this season.
In 2017-18, Grant led the Cougars to an overall record of 26-8 and a 14-4 mark in the Colonial Athletic Association play. The regular-season champions won No. 1 seed in the CAA Men’s Basketball Championship and defeated Northeastern No. 2 seeds in a time maze to paint the program’s first ticket to the NCAA Tournament since 1999.
Grant is the 13thth head coach in Boston College men’s basketball history. He replaces Jim Christian, who was fired last month.
“When we started looking for a new men’s basketball coach, we started looking for a young men’s leader, someone who shares our vision and values, who could lead our program to long-term competitions. and we will ensure a world-class student-athlete experience and education for our players, BC athletics director Pat Kraft said in a statement. “After an extensive national survey, it was clear that Earl was exactly what we were looking for and what our basketball program needs at the moment and I am sure he will have great success there. in Chestnut Hill, on the court and away from the BC community, we are thrilled to welcome Earl, his wife, Jacci, and their three sons, Trey, Eyzaiah and Elonzo to the Boston College Family. “
Grant won 20-plus games three times and made 12 conference honors.
