Israel on Monday saw another drop in the rate of coronavirus infection despite exceeding the hard milestone of 6,000 deaths.
The Ministry of Health said Monday morning, 6,018 people died from COVID-19-related complications. At least 230 patients have contracted the disease since the beginning of March.
The ministry said 1,339 people had been positively tested for coronavirus after 55,225 tests, bringing the infection rate at 2.4% – down from 2.9% reported the day before.
At least 622 patients in the hospital are in critical condition, of which 211 are ventilated.
The basic breeding number (R) is also declining and is now at 0.76, meaning that on average each COVID carrier has captured less than one person.
While the R number in the general population is currently at 0.77, in the ultra-orthodox region it has dropped to 0.69. In the Arab region, however, that number has gone up and is now at 0.85.
According to the Ministry of Health, 27 urban areas and quarters are still defined as “red” – indicating a high infection spread – 76 as “orange”, 171 as “yellow” and 1,031 as “green”. Only 3.2% of the Israeli population lives in red territories.
In addition, 5,163,482 Israelis have received at least one dose of the coronavirus vaccine, and more than 3.9 million have been given both doses.
