(Reuters) – Over 40 people in the UK will receive their first coronavirus vaccine before Easter on April 4 as an increase in supply will allow a rapid expansion of the inoculation program, the Telegraph reported on Friday, citing a top government source.

Vaccine stock is expected to more than double, allowing the National Health Service (NHS) to offer a million doses a day in the coming weeks, the newspaper said. bit.ly/2NjiMFq

People over 50 are expected to be invited for a vaccine dose over the next week, about three weeks ahead of the government’s target, according to the report.

A spokesman for the Department of Health and Social Care said the request that those aged 40 before Easter be offered vaccination shots be “wrong,” when Reuters contacted them. “We have set out our timelines for the vaccination program and there is no change to this. ”

“We plan to offer the first dose to people over 50 by mid-April and all adults by the end of July,” the spokesperson said.
