Sharing a Netflix password with friends? The company began to fight the phenomenon

Users around the world have started receiving a message from Netflix asking them to prove that the account actually belongs to them or their family members, according to a report on the GammaWire website. “If you do not live with the account holders, you must create your own account so that you can continue watching,” the statement said.

To prove you are the account holder, Netflix requires you to verify your identity using a code sent to the subscriber’s email or phone. Meanwhile, users who have encountered the message say that the “Check Later” button can be clicked to return them to the main screen.

The company said in a statement to The Streamable that “this test is designed to help people ensure that people using Netflix accounts are allowed to do so.” And yet it can not really prevent password sharing – since an account holder can send the code to his friend when he gets to it.

For years, technology experts have argued that in the modern world, Netflix will have to act very aggressively in order to break the practice that has become established among service users. According to the company, the phenomenon of password sharing is very common, especially among the young users of the service, and as a result the company has suffered damage amounting to billions of dollars.

The company has previously referred to the flurry and stressed that the terms of use make it clear that Netflix’s login information is for members of the same house. It is currently being tested by a limited number of users around the world, and it is not yet known if it may expand.
