Instagram tests autographs for Stories

Instagram is testing a new feature that will rewrite audio in Stories. This feature is called “Closed Captions”, and appears in the sticker button. It’s similar to what Instagram has to offer in its Threads app.

The new Instagram Stories feature was spotted by Matt Navarra sharing a video showing how it works. You can tap on the sticker icon, and select the subtitle sticker once you are done recording your video. Instagram then self-deems anything you said in the video. Based on the video shared by Navarra, the writing is very detailed. There are also four font options for the subtitles, and colors can be added as well.

This feature is currently appearing for select users but it looks like they can’t post Stories with it yet. Instagram also confirmed to Navarra that this feature is not available for public testing so that could be due to a glitch appearing for some users. This feature would be useful for users with hearing difficulties.

Instagram introduced something similar last year with the Threads app its first camera. Here, the app automatically adds titles to all recorded videos. You can then remove the subtitles, or edit all words. You can also move the subtitles around the video and place them where you want. On Threads, transcripts work for 15 seconds. This feature is not available to all Threads users but many have posted the subtitled videos like Instagram Stories and on TikTok as well.
