Jesse Tyler Ferguson says his 8-month-old son, Beckett Mercer, gets an early knowledge of both his father’s talents and cultural interests.
Appearing on Tuesday’s “Ellen DeGeneres Show”, “Modern Family” actress said he and husband Justin Mikita have been enjoying parenthood for the first time – but acknowledged that comes with a little learning curve.
“We’re still working on his personality,” said Ferguson. “This is the funny thing about kids who don’t tell you. You’re a new person in your life, and just like anyone else who comes into your life, you have to find out if you like them. It will take some time. ”
When asked if he sang with Beckett, Ferguson said the soundtrack in his son’s nursery to date has included musical theater and Britney Spears.
“There are so many show tunes, because that’s what I like,” questioned the actor, who has appeared in the albums “On the Town” and “25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee.” on Broadway. “So, you know, we’re raising him gay until he decides it’s just.”
Speaking to one side, Ferguson said that he and Mikita will “absolutely” love their son regardless of gender or gender identity, and will be happy to let him “do anything best.” by doing it ”as he gets older.
Elsewhere in the interview, the actor unveiled his new venture as co-author of a new cookbook, “Food Between Friends,” released on Tuesday. He also spoke about the documentary he co-produced, “Welcome to Chechnya,” which many critics consider to be a favorite of the Academy Awards.
“It’s about the gay cleansing [the Russian republic of] Chechnya that not many people know about, ”he said of the film. “It simply came to our notice then. There are so many people who don’t know about it. I am so happy and proud of the movie. “
