Israel is expected to establish its 10th university in Safed, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced Monday during a tour of the northern city.
With Haifa’s most northerly university located in the country, there is a growing need to establish a higher education institution in the Galilee area (approximately 51 km or 32 miles from Haifa) in recent years. .
In 2005, the Israeli government decided to establish a new university in Galilee but for the next ten years there were no plans to emerge. In 2015, however, Netanyahu promised to correct the previous government’s claims at the Galile Conference.
Mayor Safed Shuki Ohana said the decision to establish the university in the city will revitalize the entire region.
“Together, we will make a dream come true. Safed has prepared for this. We’ll move up the sleeves together and go out to design and perform, ”he said.
