Police on Tuesday arrested three men from a predominantly Arab town in northern Israel on suspicion of ordering gang rape of a mentally challenged teenager from a local town.
Following a complaint lodged by law enforcement a few days ago about the suspected rape, the local police set up a special action group to investigate the case and locate the suspects.
According to an initial police investigation, one of the suspects from the Galilean town of Rameh had picked up the 16-year-old victim from her home in the local town and taken her by car to a rural area near a town. Karmiel.
While there, the victim is said to have been raped for hours by several men waiting for the car at the scene.
Her family contacts police the same day and reports she had been missing for several hours.
“Using a series of complex and rapid investigation techniques, whilst using advanced technological methods, the investigators were able to identify the suspects involved. in gang rape within days, “police said in a statement.
“The suspects, residents of small villages in Galilee, were arrested and taken for questioning by Karmiel police.”
A hearing will be held Wednesday where police ask him to extend the remand of the two men.
