Falling meteors are not new to Earth, but every time a meteor enters the earth’s atmosphere and falls to the surface, it arouses interest and curiosity. among astronauts and space lovers. Last weekend, an apricot-sized meteorite crashed into Earth and landed somewhere in France. The space rock, which is estimated to weigh 150 gm, was caught falling through the atmosphere. Here is more about the event.
Where Did the Meteorite Fall in France?
According to a report in the Guardian, the elegant video containing the diving meteorite was captured by the cameras at an astronomy education facility in Mauroux. It landed at just 10:43 AM Saturday near Aiguillon, which is about 100km (62 miles) from Bordeaux. The report in the Guardian states that the site is part of the Vigie-Ciel (Sky Watch). Vigie-Ciel is a project of about 100 cameras in the Fireball Rehabilitation and Interplanetary Observation Network (FRIPON). It aims to locate and collect the meteorites that fall in France every year. In an interview with the Guardian, Mickael Wilmart, a scientist with the astronomical education association Ciel Ouvert, said that Meteorites are memories of the creation of our solar system. He also revealed that what is special about this meteorite is that its contents have not been altered by the Earth’s environment. As such, it can provide valuable information.
The catch here is that this meteorite is so small that it has not yet been discovered. Investigation has continued in real life as well as on social media. Posters have been put up in areas where the meteorite is more likely to be found. However, the Professor
Wilmart pointed out that chances of success are slim because it would be like finding a needle in a haystack.
Large asteroid to fly with Earth on March 21st
In another interesting development in space, NASA recently revealed that Asteroid 2001 F032, often referred to as the most recognizable asteroid, is now going to fly past Earth. Because of this, several people have been curious to know more about this Asteroid. According to NASA, the size of the asteroid is about 0.767 to 1.714 kilometers in diameter. It is approaching our solar system and NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory has described the asteroid 21 of March as “dangerous”. The space agency has also identified a March 21 asteroid as ‘Something Near Earth’. The total size of 231937 or 2001 FO32 asteroids can also be compared to the size of the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, USA.
