Chelsea took an important step tonight (Monday) on the way to securing a place in the top 4, when they defeated Everton 0: 2 in the top flight and continue their great period under Thomas Tuchel. Meanwhile in East London, West Ham beat Leeds 0-2 and are just 2 points away from the Blues with a game in hand.
Chelsea – Everton 0: 2
Thomas Tuchel’s players have taken a significant step towards a ticket to the Champions League next season. They completed a ninth league game without a loss and climbed to a 50-point balance in fourth place, just 4 points less than second-placed Manchester United. In contrast, Carlo Ancelotti’s side suffered a loss after three consecutive victories but are also strong in the fight. Everton are ranked fifth with 46 points, but with a game in hand.
As for the game itself, Chelsea’s first goal was scored by guest stopper Ben Godfrey, who was hit by the ball after a kick by Kai Habertz in the 31st minute. In the second half, the hosts won the penalty after Jordan Pickford tripped the wicket in the open. Giorgini took responsibility, doubled the score (65) and set the final score.

West Ham – Leeds 0: 2
After the loss to Manchester City, the Hammers returned to a more positive trajectory with an important win over Marcelo Bailesa’s side. Thanks to Everton’s loss to Chelsea, David Moyes and his men have moved up to fifth place in the Premier League table, and they look like not bad candidates at all to get a ticket to Europe at the end of the season.
The game opened with two Leeds goals disqualified by the VAR system in the 6th and 7th minutes, the first by Tyler Roberts (different) and the second by Patrick Bumford (the ball had crossed the outside line before). In the 21st minute, the host received a penalty, and Jesse Lingard was unable to subdue goalkeeper Ilan Monsieur with the first kick, but continued the rebound to the net. Craig Dawson doubled in the 28th minute with an accurate shot from the corner. West Ham could have finished with a higher advantage, but hit the beams twice.
