Inbar Lanir went up today (Sunday) to fight for the bronze medal (weighing up to 78 kg) at the Tashkent Grand Slam, an achievement that brings her closer to appearing at the Olympic Games in Tokyo.
The 20-year-old Lanir, ranked 57th in the world, opened against American Nipley Popdsky, the runner-up of Pan-American Games, and defeated her at Vasari. In the quarterfinals she achieved an iPhone over the Belgian Sophie Berger and in the quarter she won another iPhone (after a successful restraint), this time against the Uzbek Iriscon Kovnava. In the semi-finals she was defeated by the Croatian Carla Pruden, a loss that sent her into the battle for the bronze medal.
The one who scored important points in the race for the Olympic ticket is Raz Hershko (over 78 kg) who advanced to the quarterfinals after a victory over the Georgian Sophie Somkishvili, but surrendered in the next battle to Germany Rene Lucht.
A big disappointment was recorded in the weight up to 90 kg, when Lee Kochman lost the first battle in Vasari to the British Max Stewart. At the same weight, Ben Tennenbaum lost the battle in the first round as well – to Judoka from Belarus.
Meanwhile, the World Judo Federation has allowed athletes to shake hands again at the end of the fight, after to this day in competitions (since the return of the round lagging behind the Corona), the judges have banned it.
