Apple will discontinue iMac Pro because there are signs indicating that M1 will be launched

After cutting some resolutions of the 21.5-inch iMac 4K, Apple has now stopped producing the iMac Pro, adding a note to its site that the high-end is not all -one available only “as long as supplies last” and removes all configuration settings from its online store.

Once named as the fastest available Mac, the iMac Pro arrived in December 2017 as a top-notch iMac for professionals. At the time, it was faster than the Mac Pro with a built-in 5K display, 32GB of RAM, and an 8-core Xeon processor. It was also the first and only iMac with Space Gray rotation. It was updated in August with a 10-core base option but otherwise hasn’t changed since its launch.

Rumors have been going through for months that a fully-designed M1 iMac is on the way with Pro XDR-style beauty that eliminates the big chin, rips the bezels, and possibly offers color options in addition. There were no specific rumors about the iMac Pro, but we assumed it would get updated along with the other models.

Now that theory looks so convincing. The speed of the M1 processor could eliminate the need for a Pro model or a new high-end Apple iMac could be planned. Since Apple doesn’t break out individual sales, we don’t know how well the iMac Pro sold, but it seems to have represented a small fraction of the iMac’s total sales.

While the discontinuation of the iMac Pro does not necessarily indicate the arrival of a new M1 model, it does add one additional piece of evidence that Apple plans to launch a new iMac very soon. At any rate, if you want an iMac Pro, you should buy one before it becomes a collectible.
