Israel will see fewer than 700 serious virus patients for the first time in months

Israel reported Thursday that the number of serious coronavirus cases in the country has fallen below 700 for the first time in months.

The Ministry of Health said 699 patients are currently hospitalized in critical condition, the lowest figure the figure has been since December. Of that number, at least 244 are connected to aerators.

The ministry said 4,143 new coronavirus cases were diagnosed Wednesday after 82,670 tests were performed, bringing the infection rate to 5.2% – a slight increase from the same figure reported the day before.

At least 50.1% of newborns are teenagers and children, and only 5.4% are over 60.

The official death toll is now at 5,815 after another 15 patients died on Wednesday.

In addition, more than 40,000 Israelis received the first dose of the coronavirus vaccine on Wednesday, and more than 64,000 received their second dose. More than 300,000 Israelis have not been vaccinated over the age of 50.

Meanwhile, the National Intelligence and Information Center Coronavirus, an IDF special action group, warned that with the planned update of flights ahead of the March 23 elections, new COVID mutations are likely to reach Israel – may lead to other possible outbreaks of disease.
