“It’s a beautiful way to fight”

Eddie Alvarez believes Conor McGregor needs to strengthen his position to emerge against Dustin Poirier in a potential trilogy fight. The former UFC lightweight champion said McGregor will struggle to deal with Poirier’s ability to release short strokes of strikes.

In a recent interview with Helen Yee Sports, Alvarez described Poirier’s fighting style as “beautiful”. ‘The Underground King’ said he thinks Poirier is likely to beat McGregor again, considering the former’s ability to beat his opponents with a mix.

“Conor, of course, should be ready for foot kicks. I don’t know if he’ll ever find himself in enough position to be ready for Dustin’s sprints. To go back again ‘; He does that, his way of fighting is beautiful, he’s unique, and it’s hard to be ready for the inside of a gym without getting into real wars, real wars. He does that as well. He puts sprints on Conor and Conor ‘s position has to be ready for him, “said Alvarez.

Eddie Alvarez also said that Poirier ‘s hunger for the undisputed lightweight champion will give him a edge over McGregor.

“Outside of the kicks and sprints, no matter who wants that strap the most, and Dustin never liked it, Dustin never got the real belt. I would always to go with the boy who hasn’t tasted it (who won the belt) yet, “Alvarez said.

When Eddie Alvarez’s illegal strikes cost him a win against Dustin Poirier – twice

Eddie Alvarez has lost both Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier in his four-year stint with the UFC. Although greatly defeated by the Irishman, Alvarez was far more competitive in a pair of fights against ‘The Diamond’.

Both lights came to first blows at UFC 211 in 2017, which has not been regulated since Alvarez caught Poirier with two illegal kicks. After a very competitive first round, Alvarez had found a rhythm in the second frame. He pushed Poirier against the fence before accidentally hitting illegal knees that Poirier got cut under his left eye. After all, the ring doctors found it unsuitable to continue, the bout was not ruled out without competition.

Alvarez and Poirier fought each other again in July 2018. Just when it emerged that The Underground King was about to oust Poirier, he put an illegal elbow to the shoulder of his enemy who led him to the referee to stop the fight. The two went back to the beat on foot, from the middle of the eighth, and Poirier took full advantage of it. He grabbed Eddie Alvarez with his left hand before putting down a pound block that hit him.

Eddie Alvarez is currently competing in the ONE Championship FC. He is ready to fight Iuri Lapicus on April 7, 2021.
