Meizu 18 and Meizu 18 Pro – 120 Hz screen, Snapdragon 888 and an advanced photo set

We once heard Meizu’s name quite often, when the company launched another device and instrument, when its presence in Israel was also quite strong, but these days Meizu is introducing fewer and fewer devices. Despite the reduction in the company’s activity in the field of telephones, Meizu is still active, announcing today (Monday, 3.3) a new flagship device, the Meizu 18 and Meizu 18 Pro, which offer 120 Hz screens with high resolution, memory of up to 12GB RAM and Qualcomm’s most advanced chipset.

The two models in the new series combine Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 888 chipset, which is manufactured in a 5-nanometer process, combines an 8-core processor with a maximum clock speed of 2.84 GHz and offers support for 5G networks, WiFi 6E and Bluetooth 5.2. The Meizu 18 series models will also offer 8 or 12 GB of LPDDR5 memory and a 128 or 256 GB UFS 3.1 storage component, and will come built-in with the Android 11 operating system and Flyme 9 customized user interface, while offering support for -NFC.

Meizu 18 Pro

The Pro model in the Meizu 18 series comes with a large 6.7-inch screen, with Samsung’s advanced E4 Super AMOLED panel, in a convex structure on both sides and slightly in the upper and lower part. The screen offers a 20: 9 display format, with a resolution of 1440 × 3200 pixels + QHD, a refresh rate of up to 120 Hz, a touch sampling rate of up to 240 Hz and a maximum declared lighting level of up to 1300 nits, with support Standard + HDR10. At the top of the screen we can find a hole in which a selfie camera is integrated with a 44-megapixel GH1 sensor from Samsung.

Beyond the back of the device, we can find a photo set consisting of 4 cameras:

• Main camera – 50 megapixels, Samsung GN1 sensor with optical stabilization support (OIS) and electronic (EIS), f / 1.9 aperture key and phase detection for ultra-fast autofocus (Dual Pixel PDAF).
• Wide angle camera / macro – 32 megapixels, Sony IMX616 sensor. Supports wide-angle shooting up to 130 degrees with an f / 2.2 aperture key and macro shots from up to 2 cm.
• Telephoto camera – 8 megapixels for zooming up to 3 times.
• Depth camera – 3D ToF

The camera array on the device also supports maximum 8K movie recording.

On the battery side is a capacity of 4,500mAh with fast charging support with a maximum power of up to 40 watts and support for wireless charging with a power of 40 watts as well.

The entry-level model for the Meizu 18 series comes with a 6.2-inch screen, and here too we find Samsung’s Super AMOLED panel, in the convex structure, 20: 9 display format, + QHD resolution, 120 Hz refresh rate, touch sampling rate Of 240 Hz and the maximum lighting level is the same as that of the Pro model, which stands at up to 1300nits, with support for the HDR10 + standard. At the top of the screen we can find a hole in which a selfie camera with a 20-megapixel sensor is integrated.

Beyond the back of the Meizu 18 we can find a photo set consisting of 3 cameras:

• Main camera – 64 megapixels, Sony IMX682 sensor with optical stabilization support (OIS) and f / 1.6 aperture key.
• Wide angle camera / macro – 16 megapixel, Sony IMX616 sensor. Supports wide angle shooting with f / 2.2 aperture key and macro photography.
• Telephoto camera – 8 megapixels for zooming up to 3 times.

The camera system in the device also supports filming with a maximum resolution of 8K.

On the side of the battery is a capacity of 4,000mAh with fast charging support with a maximum power of up to 36 watts and without support for wireless charging.

Prices and launch dates

The company will launch the two models in the Meizu 18 series in the Chinese market starting on March 8, when no details about their launch outside China were given at this stage.

Meizu 18 model prices:

• 8GB RAM version and 128GB storage for 4,399 yuan (about $ 680 or 2,240 NIS)
• 8GB RAM version and 256GB storage for 4,699 yuan (about $ 726 or NIS 2,390)
• 12GB RAM version and 256GB storage for 4,999 yuan (about $ 773 or 2540 NIS)

• 8GB RAM version and 128GB storage at a price of 4,999 yuan (about $ 773 or NIS 2,540)
• 8GB RAM version and 256GB storage for 5,499 yuan (about $ 850 or NIS 2,800)
