Outbreak of corona virus in the gymnastics industry. After it was discovered that the national team gymnast Ofir Dayan contracted the virus and suffers from symptoms, today (Tuesday) another gymnast felt ill and she was sent home. In addition, tests revealed four more gymnasts from the junior team as positive for the virus.
The gymnastics association fears a wide outbreak, so it was decided to check all the gymnasts, coaches and teams that work with them in the industry. The inspection revealed that four gymnasts from the junior team were found positive and the team’s activity was stopped. Also, another gymnast from the senior team felt unwell and was released to her home. Because of the situation, even Linoy Ashram and Nicole Zelikman were tested, even though they did not train with the team, and they were found negative.
As reported in ONE, gymnast Ofir Dayan felt unwell last weekend and after she developed symptoms of the corona virus she was sent for a test, where she was found positive for the virus. The union demanded that she appear for clarification before the legal adviser, beyond the epidemiological examination of the Ministry of Health, which drew great criticism of this from the gymnast’s mother.
The gymnastics association claimed that they wanted to carry out an investigation into what had happened and not to hold a disciplinary inquiry into the gymnast. At the same time, the union is investigating the incident, when it is suspected that one of the staff members may have contracted the virus earlier. The union is also trying to find out when Ofir Dayan reported the symptoms and whether there was an alleged violation of the procedures.
The industry claims that gymnasts on the artistic gymnastics team sometimes suffer from fever and each time they are immediately examined by a doctor to rule out corona infection, and the same happened this time, after Dayan reported a high fever. According to her associates, Dayan was taken to a doctor who initially suspected it was an ear infection and gave her antibiotics. After her body temperature rose, she was released to her home and was even taken for a corona examination by Dr. Yoni Yarom. “It is disrespectful and inappropriate to send a sick gymnast for a conversation with the legal counsel. “As soon as she suffered from a fever that did not go down, she left the training and was sent to see a doctor,” said those around her.
Following the incident, Ira Vigdorchik’s gymnastics team left the training camp at the Wingate Institute and returned to Holon. All of the selected gymnasts underwent tests and were found negative, but they will undergo additional tests since they live in the same apartment and are together for most of the day. Meanwhile, as mentioned, one of them announced that she was feeling unwell and was released to her home for safety.
Following the incident, the artistic gymnastics team will not go out to competitions in the coming month, when its appearance in the competition in Bulgaria will be canceled. The gymnastics association claims that the team receives a proper medical envelope from the achievement sport and a close doctor and they take care of the gymnast’s well-being at all times. This morning, by the way, flowers were sent to Ofir Dayan’s home and union officials asked how she was.
