Realme Watch S – a smartwatch with a “classic” design and a low price

After checking out the Realme Watch, it’s time to check out its next generation, theRealme Watch S, A smartwatch that comes in a round design that is more similar to a regular watch with a 1.3-inch screen, offers tracking of 16 types of fitness activity and guarantees a battery life of up to 15 days.

While Realmi is a relatively new player in the Israeli cellular market, the Realme Watch S watch is the company’s second smartwatch, which arrived in Israel last February, when it joins the Realme Watch watch that we have already reviewed on the website. However, the company already has a third smartwatch, the Realme Watch S Pro, which was announced at the end of 2020 and has not yet reached Israel.

Unlike the square Realme Watch, the Realme Watch S model comes in a rounder and larger design, although it is a 1.3-inch screen, compared to the 1.4-inch in the regular model, which is mainly due to a new and round design, much more similar to a regular watch that I think makes it much More relevant for users who are interested in a smartwatch but prefer the more standard and standard wristwatch design.

A closer look – Realme Watch S

The new Realme Watch S comes in a round design, more similar to that of a regular watch, with an aluminum body and a 1.3-inch color LCD screen on the front. And while it is a smaller screen than the previous generation, it comes with an improved 360 × 360 pixel resolution. The screen itself is protected by a gorilla glass of an unknown type, when it comes with a “sharp” and unrounded finish, much more reminiscent of a regular wristwatch. In addition, you can see “hour” markings around the watch frame that contribute to its classic look.

Similar to the previous generation, the watch uses an LCD display, which may be considered less good compared to AMOLED, but still manages to address the operation of the watch and read the various messages from it even on a sunny day. The body of the watch is greatly upgraded compared to the previous generation, when it is made of aluminum in a dark silver finish with a weight of 48 grams, while the watch itself comes with water resistance and dust to the IP68 standard.

On the right side of the watch you can find a pair of physical buttons in the 20 and 40 minute markings, which are used to operate the watch along with the usual touch gestures. = On the back of the watch you can find a relatively flat round bulge, which contains the pulse sensor and oxygen saturation in the blood of the watch, along with 2 pins designed for charging used with the magnetic charger included in the kit.

Full technical specifications:

  • screen – 1.3 inch round with 360 × 360 resolution with Gorilla Glass coating.
  • strip – 22 mm standard with quick connection.
  • Sensors – Pulse measurement, oxygen oxygen storage in SpO2, sleep, steps.
  • Sports tracking – Outdoor running, walking, treadmill running, outdoor cycling, aerobic endurance, strength training, football, basketball, table tennis, feather ball, exercise bike, elliptical machine, yoga, cricket, rowing machine and rotating bicycle (?) .
  • battery – 390mAh sufficient for up to 15 days in normal condition, according to the company.
  • resistance Dust and water in IP68 standard.
  • size – 47x47x12 mm.
  • Weight – 48 g.

The Realme Watch S looks much more like a watch compared to the Realme Watch, with the use of an aluminum body giving it a more “luxurious” feel compared to the plastic body of the previous watch. While it would have been better to see it with much smaller screen edges, the whole design is not too big and is not likely to bother the average user looking for a low-budget smartwatch.

Interface – Realme Watch S

Rilmi has slightly changed the clock interface compared to the previous generation, with most relying on touch gestures – shifting to the right or left of the main clock display takes us to the various widgets, which this time include the quick settings screen, heart rate display, sleep, weather and daily activities . Shifting down from the main view opens the alerts view from the mobile device, while shifting up from the main view opens the clock menu, which comes in a 3 × 3 icons view compared to the list in the previous generation, a more convenient arrangement in my personal opinion.

In addition to gestures, a pair of buttons are also available on the right side of the watch, with the top button serving as the watch’s back and open menu button, while the bottom button is used to open the list of various sports activities the watch can track.

While the Realme Watch S watch does not come with a built-in GPS chip for tracking fitness activity, if the mobile device is near the device the watch will be able to get the GPS information from it for more accurate tracking. Two “bugs” should also be noted in the clock interface:

  • The bottom button opens the list of sports activities only When the clock is on the main clock display and not on any other screen, which requires first pressing the top button to return to the main screen and only then the lower button to open the list of sports activities.
  • If a video or audio file is playing on the mobile device in the background, even if it is not active, the clock display that opens regularly with the raising of the hand will be the music screen of the clock that allows control of the activated file, which can not be changed unless the clock can be controlled. Similar to the bug that existed in the previous model.

Charging and battery life – Realme Watch S

An important issue in any wearable product is its battery life, and in the case of the Realme Watch S the watch manages to be surprising and good. While the company promises up to 15 days of use in normal mode with its built-in 390mAh battery, during the review the watch managed to reach 53% battery after 10 days, which translates to about 20 days or about 3 weeks instead of just over two weeks the company declares – time Extra long and good battery for any wearable product.

Battery life Realme Watch S

Those who want to extend the battery life more than that can use the saving mode of the watch, which turns it from a “smart” watch to a basic watch that displays only the time, with large text in Hebrew on how to get out of battery saving mode. The company did not bother to indicate an estimated battery time in the saving mode, but it can be assumed that while in normal mode it is about 15 days. A power saving mode will be able to display a longer battery life of 45 ~ 60 days given the low battery usage in this mode.

Realme Link app

The Realme Watch S uses Rilmi Asher’s Realme Link (Android) app Available only on Android devices. The application comes in full Hebrew and with a user-friendly interface. Since we went over the app in the previous Realme Watch review, we will go over it only quickly.

The Realme Link app is designed to control all of the company’s products, so when opened, you should select the Realme Watch S. With the option of an extended information view on each of them.

Watch Views – Realme Watch S

One of the most important features of any smart watch / strap is the ability to adjust the main watch display to the user’s taste. In the case of the Realme Watch S, it comes with 5 built-in clock views and over 100 additional clock views that can be selected via the Realme Link app. You can switch between the built-in clock views by long-pressing the main screen, or through the clock settings.

While the selection of watch views is relatively small on the watch itself, through the app we get a very large amount of them. According to the company, there are about 100 different clock displays. In addition, through the app you can create a personalized clock display by selecting an image and adding a time and date display on it, a feature that could have been hoped to be available in most smartwatches.

Bottom line – what we thought of the Realme Watch S

The Realme Watch S watch comes as a rather interesting update to the previous Realme Watch. While in terms of capabilities there are no major differences between them, the new watch gets a significant upgrade in its design to a level that is difficult to understand why anyone would buy the previous Realme Watch, when the price difference between the models is only 70 shekels.

For the average user looking for an inexpensive smartwatch that can track the various sports activities and receive alerts from the cellphone, the Realme Watch S is an excellent solution thanks to its full Hebrew interface, with users who prefer a more standard watch happy with its design and use of aluminum instead of plastic. the previous.

While the watch has a number of bugs that are likely to be addressed in future software updates, it is a particularly lucrative watch for the Israeli user. There are better watches on the market, but they come with a much higher price tag than it is, as it is primarily designed to compete with the Amazfit Bip U Pro and Xiaomi Mi Watch Lite watches that come on a similar budget, albeit in a square design.

The Realme Watch S watch is available for sale at a price of 369 NIS (one year warranty, bug).
