Maybe it’s just another day for us here on Earth. We might get up and go around as if nothing was going to happen. But ask those Dinosaurs that were out on the day an asteroid hit the Earth. Well, of course you can’t because they’re all dead (along with about 75 percent of life at that time on the planet).
This is what happens when a giant space rock decides that it is tired of traveling through space and wants to ‘settle down’ on the calm planet we call Earth.
Asteroids can be small compared to the size of the Earth but can cause great destruction due to their speed. And this is why NASA and other space agencies around the world are keeping a close eye on any deceptive rocks that may be coming our way, or at least making a close call.
And one such asteroid was discovered. The asteroid has been named 2020 XU6. And it will reach its closest level to Earth today (February 22).
2020 XU6 stadium size. For a glimpse, the Image of Freedom falls short if it tries to compete with the asteroid to find out who is taller. Even Big Ben would not be able to win.
The asteroid in 700 feet in diameter (213 m). It is getting closer to Earth indeed.
But we don’t have to be extinct about extinction yet because it misses the Earth 4,087,734 km (2,540,000 m)
You can go about your day safely now.
