Samsung Galaxy Watch3 in Mystic Bronze. Now with a blood pressure test.
Samsung
Oh dear, Apple Watch. For the first time, Samsung is hitting you – and almost every other spend – in the wells with a metric key. As of Monday, February 22, Samsung is releasing a very important update: a blood pressure test.
Thinking about measuring blood pressure on your wrist is incredibly helpful, and it’s something that other brands haven’t yet managed. The potential of Samsung wearables isn’t perfect, but it’s good that it’s now reaching beyond the shores of Korea’s home. Starting tomorrow, the operational capability will reach 31 countries in the coming weeks, including the UK, Chile, Indonesia and much of mainland Europe. The release will start in the next few hours but will take weeks for the full release.
The relevant hardware is the two latest wearables from Samsung, namely, Galaxy Watch3, which was released in 2020, and Galaxy Watch Active 2, which was first seen in 2019.
The ability to add this to its latest smartwatch is one thing, but updating an 18-month-old piece of hardware is a real benefit.
So why isn’t it perfect?
Well, the measurement is not completely independent. You need to capitalize the smartwatch using full blood pressure loops. If you do not have one, you are responsible for getting one or relying on a local pharmacy, for example. That’s the piece that doesn’t fit very well.

But after that, you are free to check your blood pressure on your heels. This is a good step forward and confirms that Samsung smartwatches are quite capable in terms of health.
The watches will get another key feature update, ECG measurement, but here the wearables catch up with Apple Watch, Withings ScanWatch and other smart devices.
The update will start arriving this week and is part of the Galaxy Wearable app.
