Members of the Labor Party faction today (Sunday) appealed to the Central Election Commission to disqualify the name of the “Justice Law for Reform in the Judiciary and for the Release of Yigal Amir.” In their appeal, members of the faction stated that “the very existence of this list is an indelible stain on Israeli democracy, as its main purpose – release from prison the prime minister’s killer and Labor Party chairman Yitzhak Rabin.”
“Although it was previously decided to allow this list to run for the 23rd Knesset, the Election Commission decided several months ago not to allow the name of the heinous killer to be registered on the millions of ballot papers that appear at polling stations scattered around the country,” said party leader Merav Michaeli.
At work, they called on the Election Commission to use their authority once again and not to approve the name of the list in which the name of the prime minister’s killer appears. “Of course, this will not minimize, if only slightly, the shame of actually submitting this list but at least, it will convey an educational message to millions of voters who will be going to the polls in a few weeks and who will not have to see the wrongful son’s name on the ballot papers. In front of them, ‘they summed up their application at work.
Amir’s wife, Larissa Trimbobler, responded: “The Justice Party calls for the release of Yigal Amir as part of the democratic struggle for reform of the judiciary. Among other things, this is a demand for the repeal of retroactive and personal legislation. “After all, freedom of discussion is a basic condition for the existence of democracy. The Labor Party’s demand is another attempt to silence the mouths and silence that characterize the left.”
