As 5G networks are deployed and customer demand grows exponentially, Gilat’s Aquarius Satellite Terminal (VSAT) is designed to serve, with maximum efficiency, intensive data and media applications including 5G mobile transmission, and connectivity to vessels and organizations.
The terminals demonstrate high information processing capabilities that enable to achieve unprecedentedly high outputs, at download and upload rates. The capabilities of the Aquarius VSAT, combined with Gilat’s extensive experience in patented satellite transmission technology, are becoming a solution chosen by mobile network operators (MNOs) to deliver a true 5G satellite satellite experience to their customers.
In addition, the Aquarius family is designed to provide continuous service, and support next-generation software-based satellites in satellite arrays in GEO and NGSO orbits. Aquarius enables continuous operation, in “connection before disconnection”, using standard antenna management interfaces, which are especially important for LEO arrays that require frequent switching between satellites.
“As the industry advances to 5G networks and satellite arrays in NGSO orbits, it is very important for ground stations to evolve to meet the requirements of these demanding applications,” he said. Said Alik Shimmelmitz, VP of Technology and Products at Gilat. “Aquarius, the next generation of Gilat’s VSAT family of products, is designed to meet the demands of a wide range of high-bandwidth applications, and includes a wide range of innovative technological achievements, including incredible speeds and continuous support for many satellites.”
“Satellite communications are a means of realizing the vision of 5G connectivity, anywhere and on any scale, while fulfilling the vision and redefining the global experience,” Said Assaf Ziblick, director of marketing and business development at Gilat. “Gilat, as the market leader in satellite cellular transmission, is well on its way to becoming a significant player in the evolving space of 5G, having proven many times that its technology can support the 5G experience, which will directly affect the way people live and work.”
Aquarius, the next generation of satellite terminals (Gilat’s VSAT), comes after a series of many achievements, which were first introduced in the industry, and proven in a series of tests on satellites in GEO and LEO orbits.
As early as 2019, in two different cases, Gilat demonstrated for the first time ever record performance in 5G connectivity using Telesat’s Phase-1 LEO satellite:
Gilat reports, for the first time ever, a successful experiment of 5G connectivity on a low-orbit satellite, using Telesat’s Phase 1 LEO satellite
Gilat has achieved the highest modem speeds ever, with a total volume of 1.2Gps, on Telesat’s Phase 1 LEO satellite
Most recently, on Thaicom’s GEO HTS satellite:
