Edgar Wright is to lead a rendition of ‘The Running Man’ by Stephen King

Filmmaker Edgar Wright is poised to adapt the 1982 novel by acclaimed author Stephen King The Runner. Stephen King is one of the most famous authors in the world. Many of his books have been adapted into films, television series, comic books and miniseries.

Edgar Wright to lead the adaptation of ‘The Running Man’

Deadline reported that Paramount Pictures signs a contract with Edgar Wright (Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, Child Driver) to a new variation of The Runner. It is a futuristic novel by Stephen King, first published under the pseudonym Richard Bachman. The story shows the United States of America in the year 2025, four years from now but 23 years since the novel was published. The novel speaks of a time when the economy was in ruins and violence was on the rise.

The Runner it was first adapted in 1987 into a film of the same name. Directed by Paul Michael Glaser, it starred Arnold Schwarzenegger. It was reported that the forthcoming project would not be a remake of that and is expected to remain more faithful to the original materials of the novel. The script is co-written by Michael Bacall and Edgar Wright from a story by the latter.

Simon Kinberg (X-Men, Dark Phoenix) produced under the Genre Films Kinberg banner, along with Nira Park from Edgar Wright’s Complete Fiction banner, and Genre Films’ Audrey Chon. Kinberg passed the idea to Emma Watts, based on their long-standing relationship, and then put down Wright. While the filmmaker is very selective, it has a new look The Runner has been interesting to him, as has been reported.

Paramount Pictures has prioritized the project, according to reports. The dystopian thrush is widely regarded by many as having a rivalry between pop cultures and politics. He had been at the scene even before social media gave him a boost. Alex Jackson is overseeing the change at Paramount. Currently, there are no actors attached to the film. More will be announced in the future regarding the film.
