. This is the first comparison made on behalf of the firm between the major online players, with the gap between Levy and Mega Online’s most expensive basic basket standing at 10%, which is NIS 86.

The test is based on data from the Consumer Council on basket prices compiled by the Ministry of Economy and the Central Bureau of Statistics, which includes 68 basic products that are the best-selling in the dairy and dairy products, bread, meat and fish products, dry food, fruits and vegetables, and toiletries and cleaning products. The products in the basket constitute a significant share of household expenditure.

The price of Rami Levy’s online basket, as stated as the cheapest, was NIS 835. Next up, Victory’s was priced at NIS 865, followed by Beitan-Online Wines with NIS 903, Shufersal Online – which is considered Rami Levy’s biggest competitor in terms of online activity – with NIS 904, and finally Mega Online with NIS 921.

A comprehensive inspection, not only online but also at branches, found that the average basic product basket was NIS 942 in January, a decrease of NIS 28 since the inspection began in December 2018, when the basket was NIS 970. The most expensive basket on the list examined was that of AM: PM and its price was NIS 1,144. As of January, the price difference between the most expensive and cheapest chain is 37%, which is NIS 309. It was also reported that among the large discount chains, the basket price was NIS 53 in January, 6% lower since the beginning of the test.

A comparison between January and December found that the Mega Market chain, which first entered the basket in December and presented the lowest price, showed the highest price increase in January at a level of 4% (NIS 31). The market warehouse chains, Koop Shop, Peresh Market and Shufersal Express presented the highest price decrease since December 20, at a rate of about 3%.

In terms of consumption categories, compared to December, there was a decrease of about 1% in the categories of toiletries and cleaning, vegetables and fruits, meat and fish products and dry food. In the categories of eggs and milk and its products and bread, there was no change in prices compared to December.
