Two days before the opening of the Tel Aviv Grand Slam in judo, tests conducted for all those entering the “bubble” at the Hilton Hotel in Tel Aviv found ten positive test subjects for the corona virus, with five of them receiving a borderline result and being tested again. Of these, only one athlete is borderline in testing.

These are five external workers who were supposed to work at the Shlomo Group Hall, who were examined yesterday before entering the work and were found to be positive. The five did not come into contact with athletes, were sent to solitary confinement and a message was forwarded to the Ministry of Health.

In addition, members of foreign delegations – including one athlete – who arrived in Israel last night, who were previously positive for Corona, and boarded a flight with two negative corona tests, were found with a borderline response and therefore remained isolated in their room until further test results.

According to the protocol of the judo competitions, the participants underwent two tests before arriving in Israel, when at the entrance to the hotel they were checked again and did not leave the room until they were given a negative answer. Only after receiving the third answer, they were given a green bracelet that allowed them to leave the room and walk around in capsules inside the hotel.

The Ministry of Health responded: “The Grand Slam is an official international tournament that is considered the last tournament ahead of the Summer Olympics. Israel was able to host it and pledged to the World Federation. The tournament was presented to the government by the Minister of Culture and Sports. The tournament was designed in depth to meet the most stringent standards in the field of defense against the Corona and received the approval of the Ministry of Health before the closure and closure of the sky. All athletes are inspected before arrival and after landing, the stay is made in strict isolation conditions and the competitions are held in conditions of social distance and without crowds.
From the test results of those arriving in this delegation, 5 cases were found in which the test demonstrated a condition defined as borderline positive for the corona virus. Most of them are staff members who have apparently been borderline verified against the background of a story of recovery from Corona in recent weeks and this finding is common among recovering people. As part of the protocol, the tests were repeated to the verified and meanwhile they were all in strict isolation at the hotel funded by the tournament, and so were the tests. If the additional tests turn out to be negative, they will be able to participate in the tournament. But if the tests tested are positive, they will remain in strict isolation at the hotel. In addition, 5 verifications were found among employees who were sampled before starting to operate on the competition site and did not enter the site at all, and did not have any contact with the delegation or the athletes at all. ”
