The Surface Duo may get an update to Android 11 this summer

Microsoft had promised to release timely updates for the Surface Duo, a dual-screen Android device that went on sale last September. So far the company has been slow in keeping the phone up to date. A new report now reveals that Microsoft may release the recently expected Android 11 update later this summer.

According to the German website Dr. Windows, Microsoft and Google have strengthened their collaboration on tweaking Android for dual display devices such as Surface Duo. Google is also interested in this because it believes the changes will help other OEMs work on dual-screen devices. The “additional development work” may be one of the reasons for the delay in upgrading to Surface Duo, the report adds. A separate WindowsCentral report also reiterates the summer schedule for the Android 11 update.

Slashgear’s report reveals that the schedule is a bit large as the update could come early or as late as September. Google will by then have released the Android 12 version.

Surface Duo: Overview

Microsoft had first unveiled the Surface Duo in 2019. The device also marked Microsoft’s return to the smartphone space. Interestingly, Microsoft used Android for its dual-screen device over a mobile version of its Windows OS. The device was launched for $ 1,399 ( About 1,01,600).

The Microsoft Surface Duo with Gorilla Glass has two 5.6-inch OLED displays covered above. The displays can be extended to create an 8.2-inch PixelSense Fusion display. It also supports stylus for highlighting or taking notes.

The Surface Duo comes with an 11-megapixel camera with f / 2.0 aperture. The camera comes with features such as low light optimization, HDR, 7x zoom, 4K video recording and electronic image stabilization.

For performance, Microsoft’s Surface Duo runs on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor along with 6GB of RAM and 256GB built-in storage. It has two batteries with a capacity of 3,577mAh each.
