Jordan Spieth ’long wait for another win goes on after a disappointing final day at Pebble Beach, but he vowed to continue his recent recovery at Riviera next week.

Jordan Spieth vowed to “finish on the top” considering he was unable to turn a 54-hole lead into victory for the second week after the PGA Tour.

Spieth ‘s three – and – a – half – year wait for his 12th professional victory follows the second erratic final of the month, closing with 70 at Pebble Beach to a tied finish for third place, and three hits behind champion Daniel Berger.

The three-time main champion entered the final day with a two-point win over the field, and made a confident start with a birdie at the second before finishing a third-placed pass in a strange lie in bunker south of the trail.

Spieth ‘s bogey on the 14th completed his challenge at Pebble Beach

This was the first of a few breaks for the 27-year-old, who also failed on his last day in Phoenix last week when a 72-yard shutoff left him two adrift hits of Brooks Koepka.

Despite not yet at his best, the former world No. 1 dug deep to stay inside a bullet of the lead after a birdie at the 10th, but his race was run out after a bogey-six at the 14th long, with a birdie-birdie finish giving him the comfort of a podium finish.

Spieth is still encouraged by his recent recovery, having dropped as low as 92nd in world rankings after missing the Torrey Pines cut, and believes he can for him to continue his progress next week in the Genesis Invitational at Riviera Country Club, a classic format he described as “probably my favorite golf course in the world”.

“It’s not mental. I’m as confident as I’ve been for a long time,” Spieth said. “It’s not just the scene right now but also looking ahead. So it’s still a mechanic, that’s still slowing down.

“I did some really, really good moves this week under pressure and I did some movements that weren’t so good under pressure and there were more of them than there were last week.

“So when I go in next week arguing that Riviera is my favorite golf course in the world, I look like there will be more turns that I know are getting in, hitting the spots that I know I can turn around and shoot from the I had this week.

Spieth has held the 54-hole lead two weeks in a row

“If I look back on a Friday night in San Diego and you tell me I was going to share the 54 and have the 54-hole lead two weeks in a row and really just fight, finish the two weeks strongly, I would have told you it was subtle, to be honest.

“I wasn’t in a good place after that cut that was lost there and I just did an amazing job from Sunday through Wednesday last week and that was probably the best time for a few days of work that I submitted in the near future.

“It made me believe in what I was doing and moving forward. That’s what I continue to say is just moving forward and if I put myself in a position to lead after 54 holes is enough, especially since I know I’m going to fight even though it’s not going my way, I’ll come to the top of one of those days. “
