This Sunday at NXT TakeOver: Vengeance Day, Ember Moon will have the chance to do something she has yet to do in her WWE career. Ember Moon will play again alongside Shotzi Blackheart to take on Dakota Kai and Raquel Gonzalez in the finals of the all-time Dusty Rhodes Classic Women’s Tag Team.
Obviously this game is pretty big, but for Ember Moon it goes far beyond winning a prize or earning a chance at tag team gold. Speaking to SK Wrestling ahead of PPV on Sunday, Moon said this game is her chance to make history.
“I’ve been with WWE for almost, oh goodness, almost six years now. My good time has passed. I haven’t really had a chance to turn my name into history with Ar Women, evolution.You know, I’ve been a part of many beginnings, but I was never the first at something. And this is my chance to do it with my cycling partner or the dying Shotzi Blackheart. So we’re incredibly ecstatic, we’re very focused. “
At first glance, Dakota Kai and Raquel Gonzalez seem to be the favorites. The duo have been running roughshod across the NXT Women’s Division for over a year now, while Ember Moon and Shotzi Blackheart are relatively new to the tag team levels.
Fans shouldn’t sleep on the babies coming Sunday though. Moon and Blackheart have formed a powerful bond in a short time. Which is really amazing considering the number of superstitious people who have tried to become tag team partners with Ember Moon over the years.
Ember Moon feels like she rejected almost every woman in the locker room
In addition to the obvious ideas about riding down to the ring in a tank, Ember Moon says that everything feels right in her partnership with Shotzi Blackheart. She told SK Wrestling that she made the right call regarding Shotzi being her first official tag team partner in WWE.
“I love Shotzi ‘s energy. I love her personality and it’s crazy because, as it is, everyone thinks we don’t spend much time together, but that’s all there is to it. When we first found out we were going to be a tag team we were spending all night at her place, my hotel, watching on pictures, tag matches, everything, so we can be the best tag team we can be because that’s the Dusty. There is a legacy that comes with wins this contest and Dusty is immortal and we want to do it well.We want to do NXT well.But Shotzi Blackheart is like that free chaotic spirit, just like me.And I find out it’s just easy to bake, easy to gel, and they were just always on the same sheet. “
During her time at WWE, Ember Moon has had the opportunity to form alliances with almost everyone on the roster, but he put them all down. It didn’t matter who the Superstar was, it never seemed like the right chance.
“When you’re on RAW and SmackDown there are so many talented women at the back who fall for a chance to prove themselves. I really feel like I’ve been asked by everyone,” like everyone, at one time.I remember Natalya, when the tag titles were first announced, asking me.Naomi, who is so awesome and like my sister from another sister.It’s just so many women have asked me.Even down to Lana and so many more.It’s been one of those things that seems, without any offense to them, I didn’t get it.I didn’t I thought that was for me at the time, because I was so committed to being a singles keeper. “
It was the real setting of Lethal Weapon. My apologies for the 80s cop film reference, but in this case Ember Moon was Sgt. Roger Murtaugh. She’d always preferred to work alone, that’s until Martin Riggs came in.
Everything changed for Ember Moon when she had the opportunity to team up with Shotzi Blackheart when she returned to NXT. A special bond was created between the two superstars after the time they spent competing in WarGames back in December.
Ember Moon says Shotzi’s creativity and her commitment to just being herself attracted her to a different level. It was something she said she needed in a companion and eventually she couldn’t tell this tag team.
“I was like, ‘okay, there’s something here.” There is something here that felt more magical than the others. Reason to face it, on RAW and SmackDown I was everyone’s favorite tag team companion. As I always was the third wheel with Asuka and Bayley. Or just like, ‘Hey, we’re going to do this to see if this is appropriate. ‘And I didn’t, I didn’t feel the same magic I felt with Shotzi. “
Ember Moon and Shotzi Blackheart are now getting one win away from both the Dusty Cup and a bullet at the WWE Women’s Tag Team Tournaments. They will be available with Dakota Kai and Raquel Gonzalez this Sunday at NXT TakeOver: Vengeance Day.
