Shannon Gabriel took two early wickets as the West Indies took control of the second Test
Shannon Gabriel’s double strike helped the new West Indies member take the lead in the second Test against Bangladesh.
The fast-moving player hit Windies in each of his first two attacks to reduce Bangladesh to 11-2 in Dhaka after Nkrumah Bonner (90), Joshua Da Silva (92) and Alzarri Joseph (82) built to 409 all out in the first innings.
Wickets for Joseph and Rakheem Cornwall meant the guests were four down at stumps and although Mushfiqur Rahim (27no) and Mohammad Mithun (6no) led them to three figures, they will start on day three still 304 short runs from the total number of West Indies at 105- 4.
The West Indies started the day at 223-5 with Bonner and Da Silva at the relegation zone and the pair stretched their partnership to 88 in the morning session before the final one fell, playing just his second Test, 10 short of a virgin era as he clicked a ball sharply to give Mehidy Hasan his 99th Test wicket.
Joseph joined Da Silva in the middle and the other pair put forward 118 for the seventh wicket, Joseph taking the lead with an enterprising kick that ranged in eight fours and five sixes.
Just like Bonner, however, the two came up just short in their bid for the first Test hundred, Taijul Islam (4-108) getting Da Silva in the period before Joseph was caught behind him off Abu Jayed ( 4-98).

After scratching the tail together enough runs to see the Windies pass over 400, Gabriel came in and found Soumya Sarkar caught at a short midwicket with the last ball of the first outing of the hits. -innich Bangladesh.
Gabriel put wicketkeeper Najmul Hossain Shanto in his next step, the left-back going into a cry, before Tamim Iqbal and Mominul Haque challenged with a partnership of 58 in quick time.
However, that positive approach eventually confirmed Mominul ‘s fall when he put Cornwall behind him on the way for 21 and when Tamim (44) fell into the trap at short midwicket in the next step, the pressure was back.
Mushfiqur and Mithun, in particular, will lie out for Bangladesh before it closes, however, and can watch a reel in that West Indies when play starts on Saturday.
