Social media and Telegram channels went live Thursday afternoon with reports of an alleged attack on Syria’s border with Iraq aimed at a convoy of vehicles.
Images of the alleged attack showed a car lying down.
The social media reports identified the U.S. branch first and later Israel. But official reports of the alleged assault were slow to follow.
Centers linked to Iraqi Shiite militias said the unidentified plane had targeted a vehicle containing “supply equipment” belonging to an Iraqi militia group.
Centers out of Iraq, meanwhile, said Israel had made a “rare” flight against militants en route to Syria from Iran, according to Hebrew media.
The UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said the attack was aimed at a convoy linked to pro-Iranian militias.
The strike occurred infrequently in daylight hours – perhaps as a sign that there was an urgency to disrupt the convoy ‘s mission.

Ynet war correspondent Ron Ben-Yishai apparently said the attack was carried out to stop a shipment of advanced weapons that went from Iran to Syria through the Iraqi border city of Al-Qa’im.
Sources told Channel 12 television on Thursday that the latest strike aims to destroy the military systems and send a message to Tehran that they are in danger of being attacked even in eastern Syria.
A major explosion was heard after the strike, but other than damage to equipment, there were no reports of fatalities.
Iranian-backed Iraqi militias have been using the corridor between Iraq and Syria to deliver weapons.
The strike apparently came one month after a similar attack also carried out on Israel, which struck a convoy carrying what were described as “break-in” weapons systems defended by an Iranian force that including three commanders of the Iranian Quds Force.
