Mayor of Jerusalem: “Studies in the city will not open until we receive clear instructions”

The mayor of Jerusalem, Moshe Leon, said tonight (Wednesday) that studies in the city will not open tomorrow until clear instructions are received from the Ministry of Health and the Corona Cabinet regarding the orange neighborhoods in the city. This is due to the lack of clarity between the decision of the Corona Cabinet last night and the instructions given this morning by the Home Front Command and in the afternoon by the Ministry of Health regarding the orange neighborhoods.

The Corona Cabinet approved yesterday the return to studies, as part of which studies will be resumed tomorrow in some localities. According to the outline, at this stage the kindergartens and first-fourth grades will be opened in green and yellow cities. The education system will also be opened in orange cities with a traffic light score below 6.5 and with at least 70% of those vaccinated in a second dose among populations aged 50 and over. Eleventh-twelfth graders will not return to school at this time.

It was also confirmed that in all cities, including red and orange, a teacher will be able to meet up to 10 students in the open air. In addition, it was agreed that students who had recovered from Corona would be able to return to school as well.

The educational institutions that will return to activity tomorrow are part of the three stages of the outline that the Corona Cabinet is expected to approve. All stages were performed according to the morbidity and immunization indices. The second pulse will, according to estimates, take place on February 23, and as part of it, fifth-sixth, eleventh-twelfth grades will return to school in green and yellow + orange borders with more than 70% vaccinated. In addition, priority will be given to implementing a protective education program (testing among school students) for borderline orange cities. The third beat will presumably take place on March 9, when seventh-twelfth graders will return in green and yellow cities + in borderline orange cities with over 70% vaccinated.
