Building the ground: On the negotiations of the Maccabi Tel Aviv players

Beginning of an article

The 20-21 season is still in full swing when Maccabi Tel Aviv, which is in tremendous momentum, is doing everything to maintain the championship title. At the same time, behind-the-scenes work overtime as the yellow management is already preparing the ground for the coming seasons. On the menu of Maccabi Tel Aviv, the extension of contracts for key players, along with the thinning of the staff and the preparation of the ground for the next game season.

First, we will refer to the key players, who have an exit option when the Yellows have already chosen to enter into negotiations with them in recent days. Enrique Sborrit, one of the champions’ cornerstones in recent years, is ending his contract in the summer, but the club are hoping he will stay and management are already talking to him about a new contract. The outstanding player of the previous season, Dan Glazer, also ends his contract in the summer, but he holds the option to continue and negotiations are also underway with him. His field center friend, Dor Peretz, is in the same situation as Glazer and has also been offered a new long-term contract. It should be noted the club did not include an exit clause in offers to Glazer and Peretz as they have been careful to do for the past two years, even with those who have insisted on it.

And what about the Yellows’ most important player on offense, Jonathan Cohen? Although the king of team goals this season holds a contract until the summer of 2024 with no exit clause, it is estimated that Cohen will leave at the end of the season as he is in high demand in Europe. However, there are also quite a few car players who have a contract for another season, with whom there are no negotiations to extend the contract – Daniel Tennenbaum, Luis Hernandez, Andre Geralds, Eitan Tibi and Alexander Peshich. It should also be noted that Eyal Golsa, who signed a new contract in the summer, actually holds a two-and-a-half year contract.

Now, we will go over the sub-players, with the club hoping to keep quite a few of them. Itai Schechter, who is ending his contract at the end of the season and also seemed to be on his way out a month ago, may get a contract for another season in light of the improvement in his ability and the fact that he is a positive factor in the locker room.

Sharan Yeni also ends his contract at the end of the season but has an option to continue, and like the striker, Yeni is also expected to receive an offer for another season. However, 20-year-old Daniel Peretz is in the advanced stages of negotiations for a new contract, as he is considered the club’s future goalkeeper. Matan Hozaz is also in talks with the club and they hope to extend his contract, which expires at the end of the season. At the same time, there is an estimate that the Yellows will not exercise the option on Maor Kandil, who is terminating his contract at the end of the season due to his high salary. In any case the club want to enter into negotiations with him for a new contract, but at the same time the defender will be able to talk to other teams.

And what about Dan Bitton? The link loaned from Ludogorets has a purchase option for 1.2 million euros but it is estimated that the Yellows will not agree to purchase him for that amount in light of the devaluation of his status. Nevertheless, the club will try to negotiate with the Bulgarians for a much lower price but with this will not succeed they may give up this option. Shahar Phiben, who has been given many minutes in recent weeks, holds a three-and-a-half season contract while Ofir Davidzada will end his contract in the summer of 2022.
