By entering Super Bowl LV, Patrick Mahomes had won 25 of his last 26 games.

In his three-year NFL career so far, none of his nine losses have surpassed his score, and his lowest pass rate was 62.7. High scores, rebounds and wins have become the norm for the AFC champions.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers humiliated Mahomes and the Chiefs still couldn’t make it when they blew out Kansas City Sunday night.

Mahomes hadn’t played a game in which his offense didn’t score a goal from high school, and with a college career in which he never went below the 91.6 pass level, Sunday’s trip was probably the worst game to ever play. -ever.

“I certainly didn’t play the way I wanted to play,” Mahomes said after the game. “But what else can you say? You can only leave everything on the field and I feel like the boys did that.

“They were the best team today.

“They beat us well, the worst thing I think I was hit in the near future.

“But I’m proud of the boys and how they fought until the end of the game.”

While Tom Brady had a very effective trip on the other side of the pitch, Mahomes 26 of 49 passes for 270 yards and two innings.

He was bagged three times, but as the game progressed, he ran all his life from Bucs ’fierce defense behind a moving offensive line.

Mahomes credited Bucs defensive coordinator Todd Bowles and Tampa Bay’s D, who weighed in on the Super Bowl record for 29 times, saying: “They had a good game plan.

“They removed our deep materials, removed the sidings and did a great job building a football rally and making props.

“We weren’t going to die early, I had a few mistakes, we weren’t on the same page, just credit to them. They played a game of defensive and offensive game.”

QB Kansas City refused to blame a toe injury – which left him a limpet for most of the game – for poor performance, saying “I can’t say the toe was a problem when playing me two weeks ago and I played well on it.

“You play football, you have to fight through injuries.

“We will take a look at it (Monday) and make a final decision on whether or not we are going to have surgery on it.”

The Chiefs hope to start the 2021 season with Mahomes completely healthy, as they try to kick back and reach their third straight Super game and their fourth consecutive AFC game.
