U.S. Senate to suspend Trump impeachment trial at the weekend for Shabbat

The U.S. Senate will suspend the lawsuit of former President Donald Trump’s impeachment from Friday afternoon to Saturday afternoon this week to honor a request from Trump lawyer who is keeping an eye on Shabbat Jews , a consideration for Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer on Sunday.

Trump’s lawyer, David Schoen, sent a letter to Schumer and other senior senators Tuesday calling for the cessation of impeachment proceedings during the Shabbat, which lasts from Sundown Friday to Sundown Saturday.

The one-day delay raises questions about how long it will take to complete the trial, which is set to begin in the Senate Tuesday. The Senate is not currently scheduled to be in session during the week of February. 15.

While Democrats and Republicans have said they hope to resolve the impeachment lawsuit quickly, President Joe Biden is trying to reach an agreement for his nominees in the Senate and trying to push a $ 1.9 trillion coronavirus economic relief package through Congress.

Discussions about the structure of the trial are ongoing, Goodman said Sunday.

Trump became the first president in U.S. history to be introduced twice when the House of Representatives came to power on Jan. Thirteen allegations agreed that it sparked a revolution in a violent rampage in the Capitol a week earlier.

Trump’s lawyers and most Republican senators have opposed the case’s constitution. They have said the Senate has no authority to hear the case because Trump has resigned and cannot be removed.

A two-thirds majority of the 100-member Senate had to support the accusation to condemn Trump, meaning 17 Republicans had to join all 50 Democrats to support him.
