Stone Cold Steve Austin and Hulk Hogan are two of the biggest names in WWE history.
The two men pitched two different periods of sports entertainment and it would be nice to find a pro-wrestling fan who wouldn’t let go of a lyric about the legacies the two of them left.
Surprisingly, however, both Halls of Famers never went to toe inside the ring.
Rumors have been circulating for years that Stone Cold just didn’t like Hogan and refused to work with him but, of course, he was never proven.
Legendary narrator Jim Ross has talked about why a major fight did not take place between the two and explained that the issue was deeper than Austin just did not like his colleague.
“It would have been interesting to see,” JR said of the game, referring to her podcast.
“You have two of the most fascinating things in the history of fighting, so I’m sure it would have been financially successful.
“But, artistically? Probably not so much. Austin was never confident that he and Hogan would have enough chemistry to live up to the hype.”
Ross went on to scramble suggestions that Hogan didn’t like Stone Cold, suggesting that the bigger question about their ring styles was striking.
“There have always been stories that Hogan didn’t like Austin, he didn’t want to work with Hogan, who is great for surfing the internet and chatting.
“But I think the styles went more than Steve wanted to try. I don’t think he had anything to do with Hogan personally.
“Steve ‘s case was just that he had a very high speed. Intense, aggressive, somewhat silly, high speed.
That may not have matched Hogan’s styles at the time because of his back [issues]. It would be an interesting draw.
“It would have been a great poster, a great promo, it would have made money. But I don’t think the game in hell had a chance to live up to the hype of the two stars.”
It’s certainly interesting to hear why Stone Cold Steve Austin vs. Hulk Hogan never happened in WWE from someone who was involved with the couple.
JR may have finally put those rumors about Austin that doesn’t like the Hulkster to bed as well.
