Smith and Mooney finished player of the year in Australia

Steve Smith and Beth Mooney have taken the top branches at this year’s Australian Cricket Awards, recognizing them from their peers, game officials and the media for a strong 12 months in the game.

Smith went out of his way for Pat Cummins to win the Allan Border Medal, the award given to Australian cricketer of the year.

Smith scored 1098 runs at 45.75 across all formats in voting time, the highest number of any Australian player runs. It was in one-day internationals that he got most of his runs, scoring 568 at 63.11 to be voted the ODI player of the year in Australia.

Rachael Haynes was named Australia’s women’s ODI player of the year, after scoring 222 runs at an average of 74 in voting time.

On Friday, Shaun Marsh and Elyse Villani were named Australian home players of the year, and Will Sutherland and Hannah Darlington were named young cricketers of the year Don Bradman and Belly Wilson.

Also this summer the three Johnny Mullagh, Merv Hughes and Lisa Sthalekar entered the Australian Hall of Fame.
