Bethesda Softworks today announced the death of Robert A. Altman, founder, chairman, and CEO of parent company Bethesda ZeniMax Media.

Altman ZeniMax started with Christopher Weaver in 1999, as a parent company for Bethesda Softworks, which Weaver started in the mid-80s. Both had fallen out and Weaver was out of the company within a few years, but Altman went on to run ZeniMax for decades.
Over that sphere, ZeniMax grew its business outside of Bethesda, acquiring studios like id Software, Arkane Studios, Tango Gameworks, MachineGames, and Alpha Dog Studios.
In addition, it culminated in the creation of ZeniMax Online Studios and Roundhouse Studios (made up of developers formerly Head of Humanities).
ZeniMax recently found itself on the other side of a build deal, accepting a $ 7.5 billion offer from Microsoft to enter Xbox’s first-party studio system.
