Dries Martens. A great miracle was there (Reuters)
The year 2020 has claimed the lives of quite a few past stars in the sport, such as Diego Maradona and Kobe Bryant, but 2021 has almost started with tragic news about an active athlete. Napoli star Dries Martens survived death after a private jet carrying his dog slipped dangerously on the runway during landing. In the end there were no casualties.
The frightening incident took place on Saturday at Antwerp Airport. Martens was in Belgium, where he underwent rehabilitation following an ankle injury. According to the report, the pilot landed the plane in heavy rain and deviated from the runway dangerously.
On Thursday Martens played in a Cup win over Spezia when he came on in the second half and was substituted in the 88th minute. He is the club’s all-time leading scorer (130) after passing Diego Maradona and Mark Hamshik.
